Behind the Painting
I caught the fifth wave of marathon runners turning onto Lafayette Street in Downtown Brooklyn. I sprinted to paint every color of the socks and shoes and shorts and hats and bracelets passing by. Deep arches and ornate cornice of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. One Hanson Place tower half-lit by the afternoon sun. Park Slope steeples and a soft November sky. I raced to finish before the police cars and the street sweepers and the motorbikes took over the marathon route. Then I ran to catch the 4 Train to paint the final miles in Central Park.
